Feels Like the First Time

Here we go. My very first post. Where to begin?

Well first off, after 13 years at FFCS, 4 years at Colgate, a grad class at Harvard, not one but two Kaplan classes, the MCAT’s, the primary application, and 15 secondary apps, I’m FINALLY starting med school! In the end, I was very fortunate and had the option to attend 5 fantastic schools. I chose Upstate Medical University, and I’ll be heading to the Syracuse in early August. Just getting into med school is an incredibly long, arduous, expensive process. Frankly, it sucks, but I’m in and it’s time to look toward the future. I’m psyched to start on August 19, but reality is starting to sink in. For 20 years, I worked simply to be admitted, and now for the first time, I need to think about going to med school. The notion that I’m about to embark on one of the most long and difficult career paths in existance is still a little daunting. So many questions and concerns are running through my head. Thoughts such as, “Holy Crap!! I’m going to be a doctor?” and “Oh my god, what the hell did I get myself into?” are not very uncommon. But turns out, the excitement out weighs all of the negative. I’m nervous, but I don’t think thats too uncommon for someone who is about to learn how to slice and dice and save lives :)

Before I start in the fall, I do have a few things I want to accomplish and that I’ll probably be discussing in future posts.
Goals for summer 2009:
1. Wedding time! I have two weddings on opposite coasts that I’m very much looking forward to attending. Congrats to Matt and Nicola and Tara and Derek! Additionally, next summer Emily (my best friend) is getting married, and I’m the maid of honor. Even though I’ll be tight on time, I am going to try my damnedest to be the best MOH ever!
2. Freihofers Run for Woman and the Boilermaker — I’ll be running in both of these 5k and 15k (respectively). This weekend, I’ll be running as a proud member of Team Hot Buns (get it…Freihofer’s…Buns…). After that, its back to central NY for my first 15k. Fingers crossed I make it to the end of the Boilermaker.

3. New Apartment — Sadly, I’ll be leaving Boston for school, but that means I get to move into my new apartment. For the first time in my life, I’ll be living by myself! I’m so excited to decorate and make the place all my own. My own bathroom, my own fridge, soooo much closest space….mmm it’s going to be delightful.
